LEGENDS CAR No. 26 |
| FINDING THE GROOVE We returned to race at Cajon Speedway on April 20th looking for good performance from the car based on some of my best times yet at this track in a mid-week test session. The help from Sam Baugues of SO-CAL Cycles and his tuning expertise is much appreciated, and paid off well for us during this race. It was far from a stellar perfomance on my part, as I was caught trying too hard for a good lap in qualifying with a car that was pushing, and hit the wall on my second lap. My first lap was good enough for 10th, but we had a lot of work to do to make the show. We had just enough time to get the car race ready, still beating out kinks as we were being called for race lineup. It was a good race, the car handled well enough to stay with the pack and in contention. A few mid-race incidents ahead of us during the race kept us close, and we finished 9th for the evening. It also was good enough for our first Semi-Pro class win ever, not pretty, but a great effort by everyone invovled by not giving up. The next race on May 18th at Cajon Speedway was intense, and the most fun I've had in a race yet. We qualified 17th, with the push in qualifying still plauging the car. The main event was as competative as ever, with three wide passing in the corners to move forward in the pack, and some great driving by all to put on a specatular show for the fans. Only one minor incident and a few more yellow flag laps when Kevin 'Leadfoot' Leffler lost an engine to slow down the race pace. As the final 10 laps of the race commensed, Our next race brought us back to Irwindale Speedway on April 13. I decided to work with the new setup, making some adjustments hopefully for the better. The track didn't seem to have much grip most of the day, with the fast time of 16.93 set by Ricky Wildman (his fast time on March 30th 16.86). We were able to tune the car to 5th fastest in second practice, but the track seemed to go away from us quickly. Less than half an hour later for qualifying, I was only able to peddle the car to a 10th place effort in the 33 car field. The race was a wild one, with myself having to stay on top of the wheel fighting a loose racecar. The first anxious moment came when Gene Brokaw #112 running in 9th got sideways going through turn 2, which I was hard on the brakes to narrowly avoid collecting him, and lost a couple of positions in doing so. Two more cautions in the next few laps taking 2 cars each followed, and I continued to drop a few positions from there. The #26 car did take the checkered, but ended up 14th when it was all said and done. It's nice to be going back to Cajon Speedway. It is our pleasure to welcome Mike Callahan of Synergy 5000 and Sam Baugues of SO-CAL Custom Performance Cycles as sponsors of the #26 Legends Car. They have both brought major contributions to our race team, with Mike Callahan having extensive knowledge of Amsoil High Performance Lubricants, and Sam Baugues proving to be an excellent engine tuner and builder. A second engine is in the works for GRAHAM Motorsports by SO-CAL Custom Performance Cycles, and I have a feeling Sam may be seeing more business from Legends racers once we put one of his engines on the track. I am very happy to have them as sponsors and contributors to the GRAHAM Motorsports race team. We at GRAHAM Motorsports are proud to announce the acceptance of the FEED THE CHILDREN organization to allow us to help promote awareness in their fight against hunger for needy children around the world. As well as displaying their logo on our car, we have also chosen to sponsor a child through their wonderful organization. Please visit their website at http://www.feedthechildren.com to see about helping to relieve the suffering of very needy children. See you at the races, Bob Graham III |
