LEGENDS CAR No. 26

BACK ON TRACK

The 2001 season has been challenging on all fronts, with some great moments and some terrible moments. We started out where we left off from last season, running in and around the top 10. The 600 Racing implementation of the series shock absorber change, moving to Bilstein shocks, threw most teams a curve that had to be overcome. We adapted well, taking three races to adjust, but running faster than ever once we figured out the new combination. On June 30th, we won the B-Main at Irwindale, finishing the night in 21st struggling with the setup for the new shocks on the car. The next race there on July 14th we qualified eleventh and finished eleventh with the car handling better each time out.

Moving forward to July 21st at Cajon Speedway the car was never better. Some chassis and brake tuning we had performed during the week was paying off. We qualified 4th, just .08 seconds off fast time. The racecar seemed to be handling better than the rest of the field, and during the 8 lap heat race with the 13 fastest cars, we were able to finish 5th while starting from the tenth position. The main event started with us in the fifth position, holding on there for four laps before the first caution. The cars lined up single file for the restart, and as we picked up speed for the green flag, the leader slowed slightly. This caused the four cars ahead to bunch up and I was close behind this pack on the gas. I hit the rear of car #15 (Art Nevill) solidly, but we all kept racing down to the first turn. Due to the contact with the #15 car and my foot hard on the gas peddle, my throttle had stuck wide open. This was unknown to me, until I reached the braking zone going into turn one and the car kept powering into the corner. I was able to turn the car slightly before hitting the wall right side nose first at about 90 MPH. It was a very hard crash, but I escaped with only a slight concussion and some bad bruises. The cars suffered heavy damage, with the right side of the frame pushed in about six inches, and back about three inches from square. The right side wheels and components were sheared way as well. Damage from the crash can be seen at http://www.legendsforce.com/safety.htm. We evaluated the damage and determined that the frame of the car was not repairable, and that we would be rebuilding the car into a new frame.

At the present time, we have rebuilt the car, and are anticipating our return to be on September 15th, at the Cajon Speedway.

We at Graham Motorsports are proud to announce the acceptance of the FEED THE CHILDREN organization to allow us to help promote awareness in their fight against hunger for needy children around the world. As well as displaying their logo on our car, we have also chosen to sponsor a child through their wonderful organization. Please visit their website at http://www.feedthechildren.com to see about helping to relieve the suffering of very needy children. We will debut the FEED THE CHILDREN logo on the racecar at our next race on September 15th at Cajon Speedway. The LORD willing, we will have a safe completion of our race season, with some great results to show for our efforts. Based on improvements made during the rebuilding of the new car, and implementing the car setup from our previous race notes, we are expecting to be "Back On Track" stronger than ever.

Best wishes to all, and see you at the races.

Sincerely,

Bob Graham III
